Daniel Eastham 1826 - 1876
News clipping from Preston Chronicle of 30th April 1853 regarding Daniel Eastham and James Lennon stealing cash and absconding Australia.
Frederick Howarth Pye 1915 - 1925 'These were taken outside the store can you see me coming out the shop. Bert has gained a stone since he came here and is looking fine. We like awfully well, the weather is simply perfect, we go bathing every day, notice the sands almost to the shop door. It is very handy for the kiddies to play on whilst I help Bert. It is like a fairy tale here there are many pretty lights and shows going on until midnight.
I hope you are all well, give our love to everybody with much love to yourself from all here.
The kiddies send Grandma a big X'
This is a transcription of the message written on the back of this and a photos of Freddy Pye's sister Margaret ‘Peggy’ Pye.
The photos are believed to have been taken by their Father, Roger Herbert ‘Bert’ Pye. The location is outside the family shop on Topanga Beach, near Carmel, California.
The shop sold family made Ice cream and candies as well as cigars and tobacco.
It is believed that the message was written by Bert’s wife Margaret ‘Pops’ Pye (nee Ashworth).
Pye’s Ices were very well known to all who lived or visited Blackpool between the late 1890’s and the early 1900’s. Bert emmigrated to the USA and began a successful business in the sunshine state.
Sadly, Bert lost both his wife who died 3 March 1925, soon to be followed by their son Freddy who died on 9th May 1925.
Bert and Peggy then returned to Blackpool as he could not continue in business and raise his daughter at the same time.
